Brandon Birdsell – Picture by Todd Johnson

Again with the rain! Tennessee was the victim today as their game was washed away until Saturday. So, Iowa was playing two tonight and South Bend and Myrtle Beach were just playing one. In addition, there were some moves made today. Johzan Oquendo was promoted to South and Dilan Granadillo came off the Development List at South Bend while Erian Rodriguez came off the IL at Myrtle Beach. At Iowa, Darius Hill was placed on the Development List.

As for the Action…

3 Hit Club

OF Brett Bateman got it done tonight for Myrtle Beach. I wrote about him this morning in his Draft Pick Profile.

Mervis Jack of the Day

A three run shot is a good way to get your name in the article.

The Felix Stevens Wins the RBI Fest Award

Yeah, he’s becoming a thing at South Bend. After a 3 run dinger in the first, his OPS at High-A was up to .850. He wound up with 4 RBI on the day.

Luis Rujano Is Officially a Guy

Yup. I declared it. The 20-year-old righty from Myrtle Beach went 4.1 scoreless with 6 Ks. The last two months, he’s been better than good.

Promote Brandon Birdsell Already

Tonight…he was fantastic yet again. 5 scoreless, 2 hits, 3 Ks.

Promote him! I would not be surprised if it was by next week.

Game Scores

Iowa – Game 1 – They lost 9-8 in 7 innings. Mervis’ dinger was the highlight of the game for Iowa.

South Bend – They took it to Appleton with 5 in the first inning and they sailed to a victory pummeling the Timber Rattlers 13-4. The Cubs used 12 walks and a few hits to get to a baker’s dozen.

Myrtle Beach – They got out to an early 4-0 lead and flew away with another win, 6-0.000

Iowa – Game 2 – Alexander Canario’s 3 run homer gave Iowa a lead to hold on to after three innings. Would the bullpen hold? No, it did not. Toledo scored 10 unanswered runs as they won 11-3.
