The Cubs are planning for their own fireworks show this Fourth of July. North Side Bound has confirmed reports that the Chicago Cubs are promoting fireballer, Daniel Palencia to the major leagues.

Originally reported by Héctor Gómez who has broken many a news story in his day, Daniel Palencia is being called up to Chicago.

Palencia began the season as a starting pitcher at AA Tennessee where he showed the swing and miss stuff we had come to expect, but had continued concerns with command. With clear needs in the Wrigley Field bullpen, the Cubs transitioned him to being a reliever for this year. Palencia has a 16.7% K-BB% but a 7.90 ERA as a reliever but the Cubs are clearly banking on the elite stuff and bulldog mentality on the mound.

Daniel Palencia isn’t being put into a situation where he is the bullpen savior. His addition likely just provides another swing and miss arm to deploy to a beleaguered reliever corps. However it isn’t hard to see him running with the opportunity to carve out a significant role the rest of the year.
