Let’s start with the transactions…

Nick Hull is now in South Bend. Sam Reyes is now an Iowa Cub. Eligio Paredes is now in Myrtle Beach, although Sam Armstrong will probably start in 1-2 inning outings. And, my prediction is that we should see Luis Devers move up to Tennessee soon. Not tomorrow, but next week.

There was a lot of stuff that went on today. The ACL club played a matinee. Each of the DSL teams played doubleheaders and South Bend was supposed to but the twin bill was rained out.

Oof!!!

The Pelicans had won five straight games heading into today. Then Drew Gray walked five guys in the first and the rout was on for Fayetteville as they scored three in the first. Myrtle Beach plated two on a Parker Chavers single in the bottom of the inning and that is as close as the Birds got. The Woodpeckers scored 7 in the fourth and 3 more in the seventh and 2 more in the eighth to win 15-3.

Yeah, just not a good day.

Starting Pitcher of the Day

Walker Powell threw himself a good ole fashioned ballgame today. He threw five scoreless frames and only struck out one on the night.

Scott Kobos came on and threw two scoreless and Brailyn Marquez got through two innings. He gave up two runs, one of which was earned.

The Smokies won 4-2. Two runs were driven in by BJ Murray and Owen Caissie drove in the other two.

Shades of 2022

Tonight’s game in Des Moines was reminiscent of last year when Pete Crow-Armstrong and Alexander Canario were making headlines every day with their talent. This evening saw PCA go 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. He’s now hitting .275 with a .983 OPS.

The game was tied at four in the fifth with Iowa erupted for three runs that was punctuated by a two run jack by Canario that traveled a good bit.

Sam Reyes made his Iowa debut today and pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Tyler Duffey who gave up all four runs to Omaha. Keegan Thompson and Luke Little finished off the Storm Chasers the last 3.1 innings for a 7-4 win.

I will be back in the morning with “The Weekly” as we get caught up on the news of the week and who is hot.
