Koh Franklin – Pic by Tennessee Smokies

The rain did its thing again today. Most of the rain stayed south of the border as both games in the Dominican were suspended due to weather. Iowa was delayed at first but eventually began playing at 8:35 PM. Still, despite what the weather was like for any particular affiliate, there were several interesting performances worthy of note.

The 3 Hit Club

Josh Rivera got it done for the first time in his career. The South Bend infielder and 2023 3rd round pick. He had 1 RBI and 2 doubles. I just love how he plays.

Kohl of the Day

This one goes out to Kohl Franklin who threw 4.2 innings of one-run ball. He struck out seven.

Conversation of the Day

I could listen to Jim Callis talk about Cubs prospects all day. Why? Well, he always comes at them with fresh eyes.

Mr. Encendido

That goes to one Felix Stevens. I don’t know if there is a hotter hitter in the system than Stevens who went yard again tonight.

Yup, he’s getting to be a thing.

PCA’s First AAA Hit

It’s a dinger. Took 3 days, but he’s off the schneid.

Starting Pitcher of the Day

5 IP, 1 hit, 1 run (on a wild pitch), and 3 Ks. That is easily his best start since moving up to Triple-A.

Game Action

Myrtle Beach – They lost 7 to 1. Not much going on there at all. Then again, Jefferson Rojas went 2-for-5 and Pedro Ramirez went 2-for-3. And that was it.

South Bend – They won 5-3 in part to Tyler Santana’s 3 scoreless piggyback innings behind Michael Arias. Oh, and the two guys mentioned above.

Tennessee – Kohl pitched very well, but the offense was listless, getting 1 run on a Cole Roederer solo shot in the ninth in a 3-1 loss.

Iowa – They got started late with Jordan Wicks on the mound. He went 5 innings, gave up a 1 run, with 3 Ks. PCA’s HR made it 3-1. And that was the final score.
