Lance Rymel – South Bend Manager – Picture by Todd Johnson

With just a couple of weeks before minor camp begins, the Cubs announced who the coaches and skippers are for each affiliate today along with the coordinators for the system.

There were not a lot of suprises in terms of managers but a few spots changed at the coordinator level.

Iowa – Marty Pevey is back for 11th season as the skipper in Iowa and John Malllee will be joining him along with Eric Patterson as hitting coaches. Ron Villone is returning as the pitching coach.

Tennessee – Michael Ryan is back for his fourth year in the Cubs system and the third with an actual team as he was hired for the pandemic 2020 season. He will be joined by hitting coach Rick Strickland “Hitting Fellow” Tyler Ladendorf along with longtime Cubs MiLB Pitching Coach Jaimie Vermilyea.

South Bend – Lance Rymel will be trying to get back-to-back titles in the Midwest League. Most of his 2022 staff is back including bench coach D’Angelo JImenez and hitting coach Dan Puente. The newcomer will be Pitching Coach Clayton Mortensen who is well talked about by the players.

Myrtle Beach – Buddy Bailey is back and he will have what looks to be a whole new staff.

As well, both Rachel FOlden and Stephen Pollakov will be sharing their immense talents system rather than with a single affiliate. Both were named “Hitting Coordinators.” Kudos to them as they will help a whole lot of guys. As well, one of the nicest guys, Tony Cougoule, who was the pitching coach in South Bend the last two years was named the Arizona Complex Pitching Coordinator. That is a good move for him and his family!
