Ben Brown – Picture by Micah Manuel/Tennessee Smokies

And just like that, the 2022 MiLB season comes to a close for the Cubs. Iowa finished its regular season this afternoon and the Smokies finished their season tonight with an 11-4 loss to Pensacola in the Southern League Championship Series. Sadly, Tennessee could not hold a 3-2 lead after 4 innings as the bullpen imploded once again. We said it would determine the series and it did.

The main highlights of the night were few.

*Ben Brown gave up 1 earned run in four frames while striking out six Blue Wahoos from Pensacola.

*Nelson Maldonado had a two run single to give the Smokies a brief lead.

*Cole Roederer went 2-for-3 with a HR and a walk.

*Luis Vazquez also went 2-for-3 with a run.

And that was pretty much it.

Just because the season is done for the four affiliates, North Side Bound still has plenty going on this fall. I will be back in the morning with a look at State of the System when it comes to relievers. We will have our affiliate season reviews in about 10 days. We also have some fun pet projects next week including a look at MiLB free agency and a few surprises. We will have a preview of our October and offseason plans on Friday. Be sure to check that out!
