Tweet of the Day

This was really cool to see both Pete Crow-Armstrong and Luis Devers win both awards for the Midwest League. It’s rare to get one of the two awards in a 12-team league, let along both in one month. Pretty impressive!!! Congrats to both players and to South Bend!

Calendar of the Day

I am sticking with a South Bend tweet theme today.

They published their 2023 calendar and I was all over it checking out which games I would be seeing in the Western Division.

I am guesstimating that I will get to see 20 to 25 games next summer starting April 7-9 in the Quad Cities. It will be opening day and a Friday through Sunday series that is not too far for me to get to. The only issue is just how cold it is going to be. With school winding down, I will head up to Appleton, Wisconsin in May for a weekend and then I will be in attendance in Beloit every night for two six-game sets, one in May, another in June. There will be plenty more games to get to in Cedar Rapids, Peoria, and the Quad Cities but I will be mostly wrapped up by August 1 next summer.

As for the Games

Both Tennessee and Myrtle Beach were rained out which left Iowa and South Bend as the only games on the docket.

Iowa won thanks in large part to an outstanding start from Anderson Espinoza who threw four scoreless innings and struck out 2 while only allowing four hits. That gets him the starting pitcher of the day.

Meanwhile Jared Young was the man at the plate driving in two runs as he went 2-for-4 on the night. You could classify him as your Hitter of the Day.

Bryan Hudson threw 2 scoreless in relief today to get the reliever of the day nod as he did not allow a hit and struck out 2.

Meanwhile, in South Bend, Luis Devers allowed one run in 4 innings. He struck out 4 but he also allowed an uncharacteristic 4 walks.

Dinger of the Day

Jordan Nwogu had today’s only round tripper.

Web Gem of the Day

This one goes to Luis Verdugo who made a great snag at the end of the play!

I will be back in the morning with a look at how our preseason hitting predictions fared!
