This was a very short week for both teams. The Dominican Summer League All-Star game is taking place right now. It began at 9:30 this morning and Angel Cepeda, Joan Delgado, and Alfredo Romero are representing the Cubs.

We did see the return of two players for the Blue team. Derniche Valdez came back and so did Ramon Eriandys.

Let’s take a look at how they did in limited action this week

Blue Team

Monday – They won 7-1 over Pittsburgh as Derniche had a 3 run jack and Brailin Pascual also drove in 3. Diego Dugarte went 4 and struck out 5.
Tuesday – Edward Vargas had a 4-for-4 day and Erbin Jacque drove in three in their 7-6 Win. Miguel Cruz struck out 5 in 3 scoreless and Dalbert Mosquea went 2.1 scoreless for the save.
Wednesday – rained out against the Red team
Thursday – rained out as well against a Pirates squad

Red Team

Monday – They lost 7-6 as Ludwing Espinoza had 2 RBI along with Joan Delgado. Jeral Vizcaino pitched well with 2.1 scoreless and 3 Ks. He would switch to the Blue team later in the week.
Tuesday – The Red Team won 4-2 behind 6.1 scoreless relief innings from Ronny Lopez, the newly activated Bryan Landaez, and Brayan Diaz. It was a 7 inning affair.
Wednesday – rained out against the Blue team.
Thursday – It was a pitcher’s duel as David Bracho and Wellington threw a combined six scoreless innings as the Red team won 2-1 on an Albert Guitierrez single that brought in Andrws Cruz.

DSL July All-Stars

Yes, I know that there is one more game to play in July. But it is not going to matter for the players of the month.

DSL Hitting – Edward Vargas .340, Andrws Cruz .308, Joan Delgado .273/2/15 RBI, Alexey Lumpuy .295, Derniche Valdez .395 in 6 games, Brailin Pascual .308, and Ramon Eriandys .428 OBP/122 wRC+.

Fun fact – Andrews Cruz has switched from the infield to the outfield. Didn’t seem to affect his bat at all.

Starting Pitching – David Bracho 0.56, Miguel Cruz 0.69 ERA, Juan Archbold 1.64, Alfredo Romero 2.89 Relievers – Jair Jimenez 0.00, Jeral Vizcaino 1.13, and Dalbert Mosquea 2.70

Hitter of the Month

Joan Delgado – Yeah, he did not have the highest average in the system this month. He did, however, hit 2 HRs with 15 RBI while hitting .273. Those two stats lapped the level this month.

Starting Pitcher of the Month

This was a close one. Miguel Cruz gets the nod with his 0.69 ERA and 20 Ks which barely edged out David Bracho’s 0.56 and 10 Ks.

Reliever of the Month

Jeral Vizcaino is going to get his nod. He began the month pitching for the Red team and then switched over to theBlue this last week. While Jair JImenez had a 0.00 ERA he only had 5 Ks on the month while Vizcaino was in double digits.

The All-Star Break ends and action resumes tomorrow with a Red vs. Blue doubleheader!
