Jackson Ferris – Picture by Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans continue to roll. They have become my favorite squad to watch lately because the starting pitching has been dominant and there are a lot of young guys beginning to come into their own.
Today, Myrtle Beach swept a double header against Salem.
In the opener, the game resumed with Salem leading 2-0. The Birds kept pecking away at the Red Sox to get back in it, take a lead, and retake it. Pedro Ramirez sealed the win with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the eighth. Reivaj Garcia finished with 3 hits in that game. The Pelican used 7 walks and 2 HBPs to score 7 runs for the win.
Tweet of the Day
In the nightcap, Jackson Ferris did his thing again going three scoreless innings…again. The Pelicans scored in 4 sepearte innings in the 7-inning game. Parker Chavers had his best game in a while going 2-for-3. The Pelicans are now 6 games over .500 and are on a roll every day because the starting pitching is just clicking on all cylinders along with the bullpen.

Finally!
The South Bend offense has been shorting out quite a bit the past month. Tonight, the Cubs pounded out 15 hits to score 11 runs in their win. Ezequiel Pagan, James, Triantos, Luis Verdugo, and Luis Verdugo each had two hits while Kevin Alcantara had 3, one of his best nights of the season. The bullpen of Sheldon Reed, Zac Leigh, and Jarod Wright tossed four scoreless in relief to shut down the Tin Caps in the 11-4 win.
Out of First
The vaunted Smokies offense failed to show up tonight in a 4-1 loss to Chattanooga and that has knocked the Smokies out of first place for the first time in a long while.

The Struggles at Iowa and the Reliever of the Day
The Cubs had 8 hits with Jared Young getting 3 of them. Yet the Cubs only scored 3 runs. The Clippers won 5-3 but this night was about Daniel Palencia’s two scoreless innings of relief. Tonight’s performance lowered his ERA to 1.80 at Iowa. It is starting to get exciting with Palencia, Every day is a one day closer for him.
