Today was nice. There was a morning game for South Bend, an afternoon game for Iowa, and two different start times for Myrtle Beach and Tennessee.I didn’t feel like I was spinning in circles trying to keep up. So, I took a nap after supper for a bit. That felt strange.

Scores of the Day

South Bend 10, Beloit 2 – South Bend is grinding out ABs against Beloit and getting to their bullpen. The Cubs are now just a half of a game back of first. After the first two batters, Cade Horton pitched relatively sitting 97, He needs one more pitch that can help change eye levels, That could be a classic 12-6 curve or a changeup with some fade, We’ll see.

Augusta 5, Myrtle Beach 0 – Just four hits on the day and Andy Garriola had two of them.

Iowa 5, Indianapolis 4 – Nelson Velzquez had a big day – 2-for-4 with a dinger and 2 RBI.

Pensacola 7, Tennessee 4 – Oof! No PCA in the lineup again tonight. 3 of their four runs came in the ninth…too little, too late.

Lets Get to the Awards

Mr. Consistency

-Best knowledge of the strike in the system this year goes to …..BJ Murray. In addition to his on-base streak, he went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Man vs. Food Fail

Pelicans’ broadcaster Sam Weiderhaft tried to eat 9 hot dogs or a hot dog per inning. He did not make it. He got six done…which is still good in my book! I hope they gave the rest to Slider because he was a good boy!

Dinger of the Day

Casey Opitz’s 3-run homer took a 2-2 game and made it 5-2 to give the Cubs a nice little cushion.

The RBI Machine

Kevin Alcantara has 5 this week, And it’s only Wednesday!

Hitter of the Day

James Triantos – 4-for-5 with 2 RBI. In a week plus at High-A, he’s hitting .365 with a .869 OPS. The bat is special.

Reliever We Might Be Sleeping On

Chase Watkins is adjusting fairly quickly to High A. Today, he went two frames and whiffed 3. In addition, In May, he’s thrown 8.2 innings with a 2.13 ERA and struck out 11. In April, his ERA was over 5.

Other players of note today…

Koen Moreno – Baby steps…4 IP, 1 ER, 4 Ks, and only 1 walk! He’s starting to put 2 and 2 together slowly this year in a piggyback role. I like that because he is so athletically talented. He has a 2.00 ERA in May over 9 frames. He has 8 Ks, but he also has 8 walks. So, today was a big day.
