Connor Noland – Picture by Todd Johnson

I didn’t realize it until I was checking something at school today that Iowa was going to be playing a day game. But it was pretty cool because they came back from a 3 to 0 deficit to top Toledo today. In fact, all four games were nip and tuck today.

The Thanks for Proving My Point Award.

Jake slaughter went yard today as he went to for four, and had to RBI. He actually tied the Iowa game in the third inning. Yup, he’s getting pretty close to being ready for Chicago.

Toledo took the lead back in the fourth. Then the Cubs rallied in the bottom of the sixth to leapfrog to a 5 to 4 lead. Outstanding relief work from Cam Sanders, Bailey, horn, Rowan Wick, and Nick Burdi over the last four innings kept the lead and the win.

Reliever of the Day

Luke Little looked pretty impressive in two innings of work out of the bullpen for Tennessee. He did not allow a hit, a run, or a walk, and he struck out four of the six men he faced.

Aside from a home run by Luis Vazquez in the first inning, the Smokies did not have a lot offense over the first eight innings. They traded 3 to 2 heading to tie it at three.

Walk Off of the Day

Then, in the bottom of the tenth, top prospect, Pete Crow-Armstrong did the deed

Tough Times in Myrtle Beach

The Pelicans had a 4-1 lead a, but could not hold on. After Lynchburg closed it to 4-3, the Pelicans added a run in the fifth, but then Angel Gonzalez imploded giving up six runs over 2.1 innings as the Pelicans lost 8 to 5.

Reivaj-O-Meter

He’s now hitting .301 after going one for five today.

Tough Night in Wisconsin for the Starting Pitcher of the Day

The Cubs had plenty of opportunities tonight as they left 19 men on base. Kevin Alcantara and Ezequiel Pagán both had two hits as did James Triantos who is now hitting .429 after three days. Pitcher Connor Noland looked the best he’s looked all year as he went five scoreless innings and struck out four and only allowed two hits. he also only through 53 pitches with an amazing 37 of them were for strikes which is a little over 70%. And he had a little help with the catch of the day. However, a 3-run 7th for Wisconsin doomed the Cubs as they lost 3-1.

Easy/Tough Catch of the Day

This was not an easy ball to get to but Alcantara made it seem that way.

I will be back in the morning with a prospect update of Ben Hecht.
