Yesterday’s Big News

Tennessee pitchers Ben Brown, and Bailey Horn were promoted to Iowa yesterday. No corresponding movies have been made with Tennessee yet. There might be some moves tomorrow, but the odds are that something will probably happen on Monday or Tuesday . It’s pretty exciting to think of Brown just being one step away. I’m pretty sure he is going to be given a shot at a spot start in Chicago at some point this summer, if not this spring!

The big transactions might come tomorrow if Christopher Morel and Matt Mervis get called up to Chicago, who will be in Washington. We could be looking at a lot of movement.

Good News First

Luis Vazquez of Tennessee won the Southern League Player of the Week for his 11-for-19 performance where he had 3 HR and 6 RBI the week of the 17th-23rd

Cade Horton of Myrtle Beach is now on two Top 100 Prospect Lists. He is at 93 on Baseball America’s and he glided into the 100 spot on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100. That is cool that the Cubs now have four top 100 guys on each list. I suspect we could have more later in the summer with Jordan Wicks, Ben Brown, and Cristian Hernandez…to name a few.

Fernando Cruz Sighting

Ben Badler of Baseball America also published an article about the top 8 prospects in next year’s international free agent market. The Cubs are linked with arguably the top prospect, a young SS named Fernando Cruz for a price of over $4 million, which will soak up most of the Cubs’ pool and he might be worth it.

Check out his swing in the video below.

On a side note…his cousin is Starlin Castro.

May 2 Transactions

This Tuesday is expected to be busy as it marks the beginning of the second month of the season. It won’t be busy as June 1, but the Cubs should be moving lots of guys from Mesa to Myrtle Beach to South Bend and on up to Tennessee and Iowa.

There is a small problem with having a lot of promotions…there is not any room. To make room, the Cubs will have to make some room by either releasing a lot of the AAAA guys at Iowa or cutting other players.

This past week, the Cubs released pitchers Peyton Remy, Stanley Guzman, and Abel Moya. The latter were in the Dominican.

The Cubs did have two transactions after Tuesday last week as Tennessee put CF Zach Davis to the Development List and Myrtle Beach called up OF Cristian More from EXST.

Stats of the Week

Kevin Alcantara is coming on strong! Add in a 2-for-5 day yesterday and it continues to get better.

Cards of the Week

Tanner Witt Debuts Tomorrow Now

My favorite pitcher in this year’s class had his debut pushed back to Monday. That’s right, Tanner Witt of Texas will be making his season debut tomorrow for Texas against TCU. It is going to be a short one though as Witt will only be going 20 pitches and that is it.

Coming Up  at North Side Bound

I will be back with two posts tomorrow. One will be the usual Breakdown post. The other, that will be the first monthly All-Star team of the year. On Tuesday, Greg Huss will drop the latest Cubs on Deck podcast and I will have Tuesday Transactions. From Wednesday through Friday, I have three posts drawn up on the storyboard. One will be about stats, the other about Reivaj Garcia, and the third will be about a future prospect list. I am not sure what order those will be in just yet.

Preview of the Week

I loved the cartoon show Star Wars Rebels. I got to see the trailer for the upcoming series Ahsoka on Disney +. It will be out in mid-June.
