Today could be best described as a very busy day in the Cubs’ universe. It began with a doubleheader in Minnesota, a rain out in Myrtle Beach, a shut out in Tennessee, and a near no-hitter in the Quad Cities. All the while, I got some really cool photographs of Luke Little and some other players. And I can’t wait for tomorrow , it’s going to be sunny and 70 something in Davenport! That is a photographer’s dream scenario.
This Afternoon
The Iowa Cubs split a doubleheader today. They won the first game 9-7. Let’s just say there weren’t a lot of pitching highlights until Nick Burdi threw one inning, and struck out three. He is close to Estrada in terms of relievers being ready for Chicago. Both Christopher Morel and Nelson Velazquez continue to hit for average and drive in runs. Both guys clearly want to get back to Chicago as soon as possible.

The Early Game
With the Pelicans not playing, the Smokies were up next and it didn’t take them long to put two and two together as Ben Brown was dominant over four innings. He struck out six but did walk four. Then again, he did not allow a hit either. At the plate, Miguel Amaya and Chase Strumpf both hit home runs for Tennessee as they improved to 2-1 on the season. They are off tomorrow for Easter along with Myrtle Beach.

It was fun watching Luke Little come out and throw four solid innings. He did not allow a hit and any time a River Bandits player made contact, it sound like they either cracked or broke their bad. When he put his slider in the zone, it was literally unhittable.. Tyler Santana came on and relief gave up one run over three innings while Casey Opitz hit a two-run single to give the Cubs an early lead and they tacked on one more in the eighth to win 3 to 1. I left after the seventh inning after Tyler Santana threw three more no-hit innings and thus missed the debut of Carlos Guzman who gave up a run in two innings. So I’m gonna have to go rewatch that at some point in the next 12 hours before tomorrow’s game.
Swords of the Day
I’ll be back in Davenport one last time tomorrow. It’s an afternoon game and it’s supposed to be in the low 70s and sunny, which is a photographers dream.
