MLB Pipeline has been having a prospect extravaganza over the past two weeks where they’ve listed the top 10 players at each position in the minors. We saw Jordan Wicks get some love at LHP while PCA got a lot more love as the top defender for outfielders.

Tonight, MLB dropped their top 100 prospect list and the Cubs placed three players in the top 100 in Pete Crow Armstrong, Kevin Alcantara, and Brennen Davis.

Brennen Davis was the first Cub on the board at 92. That was not surprising as his injury plagued 2022 season had much to do with that. A healthy 2023, though, will change everything for the elite outfielder. And, yes, we are all onboard at NSB with Brennen bouncing back this season.

Kevin Alcantara was up next at 87. The young 20-year-old could fly up the rankings with a great season at South Bend and possibly Tennessee. To do that, Alcantara is going to have to get on base and to continue to power up. He should easily do that as the ball flies a lot better in the Midwest League than it did in the Carolinas.

When it came to Pete Crow-Armstrong, the sky is the limit for him in 2023. He could end up in Chicago at the end of the year with his defense and speed. Pipeline’s #28 ranked prospect could be a top 10 guy if he hits well at Double-A this summer. How much power will we have? We are going to find out quickly this year.

I thought Matt Mervis might sneak on the top 100 as MLB Pipeline named him the #4 1B last week. Hayden Wesneski had to be close and I know that Jim Callis really likes Cade Horton quite a bit.

It will be fun to see how many top 100 guys the Cubs have this summer. I would not be surprised to see 5 Cubs in a top 100. The list itself is not really surprising.

Pipeline will be rolling out their top 30 lists next month. Those could be eye opening and it will interesting to see where the Cubs recent draft picks are ranked!

We will back tomorrow morning with a plethora of info including the 5 Series with DJ Herz and Baseball Prospectus’ top 10 list. Greg Huss also has some cool content that he is about ready to roll out. It could be tomorrow or Saturday. Stay tuned!

It should be a very busy morning!
