That’s right, the Cubs re-signed the former lefty phenom to a minor league deal this morning!
No terms were given, but the earlier release freed up a 40 man spot and gave Marquez a new lease on life. The re-signing could mean Marquez could possibly become “a pitching weapon” for the Cubs if he can stay healthy and revert to the form he showed in 2019 when he was hitting triple digits and striking out 10+ a game in South Bend.
Reliever is the likely option going forward. Starting pitching, at least for this year, is probably not in the picture given that he hasn’t started a MiLB game in 3 full seasons.
Marquez will probaby be assigned to Tennessee if he makes it through the Rule 5 Draft tomorrow night.
