Ben Brown – Picture by MiLB Pipeline
Welcome to the penultimate players of the day post for 2022. Tomorrow will be the last day for these type of posts. Starting on Tuesday, I shift gears to recapping the day in the playoffs for South Bend and Myrtle Beach.
There were just three games in the system today as South Bend was rained out at Cedar Rapids. It is not looking for the weather tomorrow in Iowa either.
Web Gem of the Day
Starting Pitcher of the Day
Today was all about Ben Brown. The youngster acquired from the Phillies this summer looked pretty good going five innings for the Smokies. He gave up two runs, but he struck out seven and flashed a fastball that was somewhat overpowering today.
Brown looked studly and he should be a key cog in the playoff rotation for the Smokies starting on the 20th.
Reliever of the Day
Cam Sanders continues to shine a bit in his new reliever role. Tonight saw him strikeout two men in 2 scoreless innings.
Good Sign of the Day
Miguel Amaya has never hit above .256 in his career as a Cub. He is hitting .284 after cranking his second home run in as many nights.
Ethan Hearn of the Day
Tonight, Ethan Hearn popped off as he went 3-for-4 with 2 HRs and 2 RBI. He’s been tearing it up since August 1 and hopefully his hot bat carries over into the playoffs.
I will be back in the morning with “The Weekly” as I sum up the news of the week and also look at some draft news and IFA updates.
Hearn’s turning in an excellent *season.* Gotta break the Cubs prospect twitter habit of arbitrary endpoints for the sake of being arbitrary!
I’m already irked, especially after last year’s spectacle around 18 YOs in Rk ball given infinite credti, that he and Pedro Ramirez are going to struggle to make top 30s and 20s when both are closer to top 10
