There may not have been a hotter batter on the planet than Alexander Canario in July. His truly monstrous .354/.500/.800 (1.300 OPS, 229 wRC+) line with 22.6% BB-rate and 15.5% K-rate reads like stats one might put up on the easiest hitting setting in MLB the Show. While he did cool off in August, he’s more than held his own by continuing to put his power and speed on display.

After popping another two home runs today, it appears that Alexander Canario is taking his talents to South Beach Gray’s Lake Park in Des Moines. According to multiple reports and confirmed by North Side Bound via Canario, himself, he’ll be promoted to the Iowa Cubs. Canario, as a prospect, was always a fascinating balance between upside talent and a shortened development timeline. Since Canario already was placed on the 40-man roster last season, he’s occupying a roster spot from someone almost certainly not going to be playing in Chicago this season. Even more challenging is he’s using up minor league options as he continues to develop in the minors. The flipside off those restrictions is the talent is undeniable. Canario made massive development strides this season putting him one call away from Chicago going into 2023.

While we wait for Canario’s debut, sit back and enjoy some of his highlights this year.
