DJ Herz – Picture by Todd Johnson

It was a big afternoon of rain and MiLB transactions as the Cubs promoted arguably two of their top pitching prospects in Jordan Wicks, who we broke the news on earlier, and DJ Herz, who we are breaking the news on now.

For Herz, it has been a challenging year in the sense that he has only recently been allowed to pitch into the fifth inning. His last start for South Bend was yesterday. He looked fantastic as I sat in the dugout and the front row on the first base side to get an up close glimpse of him. He went 5 frames and allowed just 1 hit, a HR. He struck out six.

On the year, the Cubs 2021 MiLB Pitcher of the Year has a 2.27 ERA in 17 starts. He’s thrown 63.2 IP and struck out 99. His WHIP is 1.10 despite having a BAA of .150. His Achilles heel this year are his 37 walks. He will be fine. Good luck to this nice, young man!
