Jackson Frazier – Picture by Dylan Heuer/Iowa Cubs
I am going to call tonight “De Ja Oof!!!!”
Last night I commented how rough the starting pitching was across the system. Tonight was not much better except for one guy. Jose Miguel Gonzalez gave up six runs in the first inning and he didn’t even make it out of the first inning. Manny Espinoza of South Bend gave up seven in two innings. And luckily for Tennessee, they were rained out.
Starting Pitcher of the Day
When it came to Matt Dermody in Iowa, he had his best game with the Cubs as he went five scoreless Innings and struck out 10 in leading the I Cubs to victory in Indianapolis
Debut of the Day
Ben Hecht was seen pitching in a game today for the first time since his 2019 breakout season. Good for him!
Bunt of the Day
Pete Crow-Armstrong laid down the perfect bunt single. He went 2-for-5 in a loss and he his hitting much better in July at .273.
Hitter/Dinger of the Day
Jackson Frazier of Iowa hit a second home run in as many days. Last night it was a solo shot. Tonight, it was a grand slam that propelled Iowa on the road to victory. He went 3-for-5 on the night with 6 RBI. He also wins the Dinger of the day.
He is definitely putting himself back in the conversation for Chicago.
Reliever of the Day
Brendon Little gets the nod today for Iowa as he threw two scoreless innings and struck out two. It’s been an up and down season for Little. He was very good earlier in the year as he did not allow an earned run in May and then he had an 11+ ERA in June! Oof again! He has yet to allow a run in July. Looks like he is back on the relief train!
