Tuesday Transactions – Will Today Be the Big Moving Day or Will it Be Next Week?

With the first half now over, I suspect we’ll see a barrage of transactions this week and/or next. We may even see some guys placed on the development list to make room for others, but there’s going to be a lot of movement from Mesa all the way up to Iowa.

Some of those moves started on Friday when Blake Whitney was bumped up to Iowa, Max Bain came off the development list in Tennessee, Riley Martin was added to the development list in South Bend, and Adam Laskey was promoted to South Bend from Myrtle Beach. On Saturday, Alejandro Rivero went from Mesa to Myrtle and Donnie Dewees was moved from the 7-Day IL to the 60-Day for Iowa.

Yesterday, the Pelicans, in conjunction with the ACL Cubs, made three moves. RHP Erian Rodriguez was sent on a rehab assignment to the ACL Cubs along with C Wally Soto and OF Frank Hernandez. Well, I am very excited to see Erian Rodriguez get his pro career going as he did not pitch last year after being drafted.

Today, there could be several moves. We might see pitcher Tyler Santana and outfielder Ezequiel Pagán move soon from Myrtle Beach to South Bend. It’s just about time for Yohendrick Pinango and DJ Herz to move up. We could also include Joe Nahas in that group. While at Tennessee, Javier Assad, Danis Correa, and Chase Strumpf are all ready to go to Iowa  Don’t get me started on who should be going from Iowa to Chicago.

I do have some outside house work to do this morning while it is cool, so I’ll be in and out checking on the transactions when I take a break from cleaning the siding and doing some trimming on some bushes. I will check back in around 10 o’clock to see if anything has happened and about every hour to two hours the rest of the afternoon.

Around 3:45, I’ll be heading to Beloit to see South Bend take on the “Sky Carp” for the first official time at their place (they were still the Snappers last year). I plan on talking to a few players along with getting pictures of a lot of the new guys in their first game for South Bend. Look for lots of Yovanny Cruz and PCA pics tonight on my Twitter account! In fact, just look for them every night about 9:30 or 10 PM this week.

10:18 A.M.

Not much going on so far. Then again, it is pretty early. I will check back in an hour or so.

11:00 AM

2B Bryan Serra assigned to Myrtle Beach Pelicans from ACL Cubs.

Serra actually converted to catcher this winter. He takes the place of Soto. I still expect one more move, maybe two from the ACL to Myrtle Beach.

12:15 PM

Looks like Reivaj Garcia is headed back to the ACL as well from Myrtle Beach.

1:28 PM

Tennessee activated P Nicholas Padilla and C Harrison Wenson. Placed Delvin Zinn and Scott Kobos on the 7-Day IL.

2 PM

Iowa did not list any moves in their email/game notes. That could change, but it is more than likely a game time thing.

That just leaves any moves from South Bend and it is pretty quiet as they are probably cruising across I-90 to hit I-39 to head to Beloit.

2:01 PM

And just like that South Bend posts its move for the day. They activated C Casey Opitz from the 7-day injured list.

There might be a move or two later in the day. But for the most part, it looks like my day is done and I will be off to Beloit to see South Bend in action tonight!
