Anderson Espinoza – Picture by Micah Manuel

Three out of the four teams won today with South Bend beating Beloit 6-3, Iowa won 7-2, and Tennessee won 2-0 as the Smokies no-hit Rocket City!!! That should give you a little clue about today’s pitchers of the day!

Broadcast Call of the Day

Let’s get going on the awards for today.

Pitchers of the Day

The starting pitcher award goes to Anderson Espinoza who looked like 2016 Anderson Espinosa when he was one of the top prospects in all of baseball. Espinoza threw five innings, did not allow a hit or a run and struck out seven in leading the Smokies to a 2 to 0 win.

Relievers Samuel Reyes, Bryan King, and Nicholas Padilla continued to hold the Trash Pandas hitless the rest of the way to give Tennessee its second no-hitter of the year! All three will share today’s award.

Bradlee Beesley saved the no-no with this awesome catch in left!

YouTube Video of the Day

As President of the Kohl Franklin Fan Club, I think it is my duty and honor to present this video made by Lang Media who posted it on YouTube today. It’s a fun look at how Kohl gets ready for a game.

Tonight was a really fun night for me as I got to play photographer for the South Bend Cubs up in Beloit. The weather was perfect and the crowd wasn’t too bad for a Tuesday night. I saw great performances by Daniel Palencia who gave up two hits in 4.2 IP and did not allow a run while striking out 5.

Hitter of the Day

For this award there were a few players in contention. Yeison Santana would go 2-for-4 for South Bend and drove in two runs. Levi Jordan went 2-for-4 for Iowa and drove in 2 as well. But today’s nod goes to Jared Young who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. In addition, Young was back playing second…where he started his career coming out of Old Dominion.

Special note – Pete Crow-Armstrong looked great in person tonight. It was the first time I got to see him play in person. I told Brendan King before the game that PCA looked ready to have a big night and he could quote me.

I will be back in the morning with a look at some of Myrtle Beach’s new young relievers and I will be back in Beloit tomorrow night!
