Today was one of the busiest days in recent memory. Between Tuesday transactions, sitting in on some Science teacher interviews, doing a roundtable video/podcast for North Side Bound, and then sitting down to finally watch some baseball at 7 o’clock, all I could think of was I have two posts to do in the next three hours. One was to do the Players of the Day, And the other was to figure out the monthly awards for tomorrow’s All-Star team post. So, let’s get right to today’s awards. I will do the other one when I am done.

Hitter of the Day

It wasn’t a day filled with a lot of offense but Kevin Alcantara sure did bring the thunder today for Myrtle Beach. He began the night with a triple, followed it up with a Missile over the left field wall that was measured at 113 miles an hour. He also had a sacrifice fly that in any other park would’ve been over the wall in dead center.

Starting Pitcher of the Day

This goes to Luis Devers who went five scoreless and struck out six in helping lead Myrtle Beach to a game one homestand victory and break their two game losing streak. For May, Devers had a 1.48 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.

Reliever of the Day

Jeremiah Estrada pitched 1.1 innings tonight for South Bend and struck out four guys. I was hoping that he would be on his way to Tennessee today and he maybe next week. I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll even get to see him again in the Quad Cities on June 14.

Best Transaction Debut

Darius Hill did not skip a beat moving up to Triple-A Iowa.

I’ll be back in the morning with this month’s All-Star team. Once this is published, I will need to go figure out who is going to be the Hitter of the Month because that’s not been decided just yet.

Have a good night!!!
