Today started off just like any other. The alarm on my phone went off. I then let the dogs out, fixed them breakfast, and then made my own. I did article tweets and other social media posts for NSB and got ready to go to work and then traveled cross country for 14 miles. I did my walk before school, settled down, and graded a few papers. That is when the normalcy ended. At 8:15, the bell rang to start school, the Tuesday Transactions post went live, and all hell broke loose over the next 8 hours.

It began with the Chris Morel promotion to Chicago soon followed by the Brandon Hughes promotion. And the wait began to see who else would be moving where. Eventually, around noon, Matt Mervis was sent to Tennessee. Close to 4, Jake Reindl went to South Bend, and Frankie Scalzo was taken off the IL for Myrtle Beach.

After supper, I got my walk in and sat down to a Kevin Alcantara HR. I just love that kid’s swing! Well, that was only the beginning of an exciting night of baseball.

In Columbia, South Carolina, Myrtle Beach’s Richard Gallardo’s night could not have gotten off to much of a worse start. He walked the first hitter and then gave up a jack to quickly fall behind 2-0 to the Fireflies. After that, Gallardo settled in and pitched well for the next five frames before giving up 2 unearned runs in the 6th. On the night, he struck out 7 and only gave up 3 hits while walking 1 as the Pelicans cruised to a 15-4 victory. If Gallardo ever gets through the first inning of a game unscathed, he might find his way to South Bend. For his performance tonight, he is our Starting Pitcher of the Day.

The Hitter of the Day came down to the wire. At first, I thought it would be someone from Myrtle Beach as they put up 15 runs on the Day. Then again, the Smokies can put up some crooked runs in a hurry. Bryce WIndham reached base four times tonight and went 2-for-3 with a single, a homer, and 3 RBI.

As for the Reliever of the Day, Bailey Horn was one of the few relievers to work a clean outing as he won again for his 3 innings with 3 Ks. He did not allow a hit or a run and only one base runner reached on a walk.

Honorable mentions go out to Kevin Alcantara who went 2-for-4 with a dinger and 2 RBI while Ezequiel Pagan went 2-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI. Reliever Bryan King went 1 inning with 2 Ks for Myrtle Beach.
