One thing I really like about watching the minor leagues is I never know what is going to happen. If you would’ve told me this afternoon that Bradley Beesley of South Bend would get four hits and a walk to reach base five times, I would not have believed you. If you would’ve told me that Harrison Wenson of Tennessee would hit two home runs, I would not have believed that either. If you would’ve told me that Caleb Kilian would strikeout six over four innings, that I would’ve gone for.

Since today is Friday, I’m going to cut right to the chase.

Hitter of the Day

While Bradlee Beasley of South Bend did go 4-for-5 with three runs and teammate Matt Mervis would also go 4-for-5, the hero of the night was definitely Yohendrick Pinango who hit two home runs and drove in six on the night. The most fun fact about those homers was that they came in back-to-back innings.

The Starting Pitcher of the Day

The plaudit today goes to Iowa’s Caleb Kilian. He was charged with one run after he left the game but he did pitch into the fifth inning before he was pulled. he threw eight through 73 pitches, 47 for strikes, scattered four hits and struck out six Storms Chasers including three in the first.

The Reliever of the Day

Bailey Horn of South Bend struck out five of the six men he faced. He has yet to allow a run since coming off the injured list on May 1.

As for the Actual Results…

Myrtle Beach was held to just six hits and couldn’t put them together as they lost 4-1 to Charleston. As you can probably tell from the Yohendrick Pinango statistics, South Bend put put up a ton of runs tonight as they scored 11 to Fort Wayne‘s 2 Luis Verdugo also had two hits along with a Owen Caissie, Fabian Pertuz, Jordan Nwogu, and Pablo Aliendo. Tennessee won in dramatic fashion as Yonathan Perlaza hit a go ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth and Wyatt Short came on and got the save in the ninth. In Iowa, the I-Cubs got out out to a four run before the Storm Chasers came back to tie it in the seventh and then go ahead 5-4. Jared young tied it in the bottom of the seventh at five with his 9th HR on the year. The game went to extras with Iowa winning 6-5 in ten innings when Nelson Velazquez drilled a walk-off single.
