Alexander Canario – Picture by Todd Johnson

I was just checking the transaction page tonight of the Tennessee Smokies as I was looking up who all had been promoted so far this year. And there it was in all it’s glory: “LF Alexander Canario assigned to Tennessee Smokies from South Bend Cubs.”

Canario, who just turned 22 two days ago, has been doing some serious damage the past month in the Midwest League. On the year, he was hitting .281 with an OBP of .360 with a wRC+ of 166 in addition to 7 HRs and 22 RBIs. I don’t think teams in the Midwest League are going to miss him. The Southern League may come to rue this day as the young power hitter moves to Double-A.

We should see some corresponding moves tonight or throughout the day tomorrow. Whether that move is from Tennessee to Iowa or Myrtle Beach to South Bend, we will be on it. Check back in the morning with our weekly “Tuesday Transactions” post to be updated on the latest moves.
