This has been a strange year for promotions.
Last year’s roster movement was just crazy because of Covid and coming off a missed season that resulted in a rash of injuries throughout the year. Each affiliate used an absurd number of prospects on the roster last year. Myrtle Beach used 63, South Bend had 73, Tennessee had 68, and Iowa used an ungodly 82 different players. That’s just unreal!
So far, knock on wood, the injuries this year have not been a substantial as they were last year. There were a couple over the weekend that we’re watching to be replaced today. Left-handed pitcher Chase Watkins was placed on the injured list by Myrtle Beach along with outfielder Jacob Wetzel. Outfielder Donnie Dewees was put on the seven day IL by Iowa, who just sent Levi Jordan to Tennessee and called up Nelson Maldonado. As well, Tennessee placed Scott Kobos on the IL after promoting Brandon Hughes to Iowa.
That’s four or five moves right there that need to be made.
In addition, Locke St. John was optioned back to Iowa to get the MLB roster down to 26.
As well, we usually start to see some promotions around the first of the month. Riley Martin moved from Myrtle Beach to South Bend last Thursday and there might be one or two more pitchers coming from the bullpen.
I was wondering if we might also start to see players who are on the 60-Day IL out in Mesa start rehab assignments in Mrytle Beach which they are allowed to do. The warmth there would be better for them before they jump back to South Bend or Tennessee or wherever they are assigned on the IL right now. Those rehabbing players could be of the pitching or hitting variety. We shall see.
My prognostication for today is that there will be just a few moves. I’ll check back in around 11:30 and then throughout the course of the afternoon to keep you updated.

Welp, just before I was ready to publish, moves started happening.
The Tennessee Smokies transferred RHP Dauris Valdez from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
And the bomb….Just as we thought. Look for some corresponding moves later!

Not much else news has broken since the initial tweet above. I am expecting emails from each club starting about 1 PM with the agme notes and any roster moves. I will keep periodicaly checking the transaction wires in the meantime.

Iowa does not have any transactions today. Now, it is down to getting info and game notes from South Bend and Tennessee.

Iowa released pitchers Kevin McCarthy and Eric Yardley and activated C Erick Castillo.
In addition, Robert Gsellman was called up to the Cubs.
There may be some additional moves tomorrow to fill up the rotation.
