I used to play a ton of MLB The Show. Between the 2006 version of the game and the 2016 edition, I won many a virtual championship for the Chicago Cubs. In addition to the countless hours of gameplay that I put in on those games, I also logged an almost unbelievable amount of time creating and editing players in Franchise Mode, recreating the entire Cubs organization including prospects from Albert Almora to Chesny Young.

But in today’s MLB The Show, you can download nearly flawless rosters that include all of those players. Brennen Davis and Pete Crow-Armstrong are in the game. So are James Triantos and every top prospect in between.

And over the last few years, instead of playing the video game, I’ve taken to YouTube to watch people like GG9 do what I was always so bad at.

Recently, the Youtuber behind the GG9 channel reached out to me to get some prospect contributions to his new series in which he is rebuilding the Chicago Cubs in a way that doesn’t look all that different than what Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins are trying to do with the team in real life.

So I joined GG9 for his most recent episode of his Chicago Cubs rebuild series and talked about some of the top prospects in the system and what kind of impact they might have in Chicago both short- and long-term. We cover guys like Brailyn Marquez, Caleb Kilian, Triantos, and Nelson Velazquez.

If you’re interested in hearing me talk prospects with a little video game entertainment spin on it, go check out the video on GG9’s YouTube page!
