Yesterday was a lot of fun as Myrtle Beach won their game this week in walk-off fashion. Iowa also won in walkoff fashion courtesy of Donnie Dewees. Tennessee got a late start and Riley Thompson did not disappoint in his second start. As a result, we had some touch choices for our players of the day.

Kevin Alcantara – He wins the hitter of the day with his 3-for-4 1 performance. His presence in the lineup may help some of the other young prospects in Myrtle Beach. At least that’s my hope.

Riley Thompson – Outside of one pitch, he put on a vicious performance attacking the striking zone early and often and showcasing a killer breaking ball.

Chase Watkins – The young lefty out of Oregon State had his best performance as a pro. By jove, I think he is starting to get it as he went 3.1 IP with 5 Ks. I have always thought the Cubs might turn him into a starter. Then again, 3.1 IP in relief is no easy task.

Honorable Mentions

Donnie Dewees – 3-for 5, 1 GW RBI

James Triantos and Ezequiel Pagan both went 2-for-4 and Triantos had the game winner

Kyle Johnson was outstanding closing it down for Tennessee with 2.1 scoreless innings in his Smokies debut. He struck out 3 and did not allow a hit or a run.

Tyler Santana also pitched well with 2 scoreless to get the win for the Pelicans.
