The day we have been waiting for since mid-January finally arrived today as the Cubs announced the managerial lineups for each affiliate this morning. There were a few changes which we have been speculating about for awhile. The only major change for 2022 is Michael Ryan moving up to Tennessee and Lance Rymel taking over at South Bend. There were rumors of that happening as far back as early September.

Anyways, here are the staffs at each affiliate:

Manager – Marty Pevey

This will be Pevey’s 10th year at Iowa and he will be joined by hitting coach Desi Wilson and pitching coach Ron Villone. Griffin Benedict will be the bench coach while Thomas Boucher will be the development coach.

Manager – Michael Ryan

This will be Ryan’s second full year as a Cubs skipper after helming South Bend in 2021, Ryan is actually returning to Tennessee where he was supposed to be the skipper in 2020 before the pandemic. Before that he was in the Pirates’ system through 2019. He will be joined by Rick Strickland as hitting coach and Jamie Vermilyea as pitching coach. Vermilyea is having a pretty good run with pitchers the past four years at Mesa, South Bend, and Tennessee in 2021. The bench coach spot is currently not filled. I thought that Paul McAnulty would be moving up with Ryan to Double=A. That did not happen as of yet.

Manager – Lance Rymel

If there is such as a thing as a rising managerial star in the system, it is Rymel who excelled at Eugene and Mesa the past two summers along with winning the Arizona Fall League title in 2021 with the Mesa Solar Sox. Dan Puente will be there as hitting coach while Tony Cougoule returns to South Bend as the pitching coach. D’Angelo Jimenez will be the bench coach.

The Manager, the Myth, the Legend – Buddy Bailey

Buddy is going to be living the dream imparting knowledge to the Cubs’ youngest hitters and future top 100 porospects. He is the right man in the right place.

Bailey will be joined by Stephen Pollakov as hitting coach. Clayton Mortensen returns as pitching coach and Jovanny Rosario will be the bench coach.

Edgar Perez will be the new manager in Mesa and his staff will include Rachel Folden and former player Yovanny Cuevas and Eric Patterson. In addition, Armando Gambino returns to the Cubs after missing last season! He was last with Eugene in 2019.

The Cubs will only have one team in Mesa again while the DSL will have two teams, as usual. Carlos Ramirez and Enrique Wilson will be entering their fourth and fifth years as skippers there.
