The Cubs are bringing back some familiar faces.

The Cubs announced they re-signed infielders Ildemaro Vargas, 30, and Dixon Machado, 30, to MiLB deals.

Vargas only played nine games with the Cubs in 2021. A switch-hitter, Vargas has bounced around the majors the last five years playing with the Cubs, Pirates, Twins, and D’Backs. As for Machado, he has played with the Cubs and Tigers before spending the last two seasons in Korea playing for the Lotte Giants. He hit an impressive .280/.358/.393 with 17 dingers over the two years. In 2019, he hit .261/.371/.480 with the Cubs’ Triple-A Iowa Cubs.

The two join Locke St. John, Stephen Gonsalves, PJ Higgins, Mark Leiter, Jr., and Jonathan Holder in Iowa on MiLB deals with an invite to Spring Training.
