In a quiet move, the Cubs began minor league free agency today by signing OF Narciso Crook who had been in the Reds’ system since he was 17, He was originally born in the Dominican and came to the US to attend Rowan College in New Jersey.
At 6-foo-3 and 220, Crook will probably provide some MiLB depth for the big league Cubs until Brennen Davis, Nelson Velazquez, or Chris Morel is ready. He does have some pop and he was not too bad last year in Triple-A with an OPS of over .800.
More than likely he gets stashed at Iowa.
