The Cubs outrighted catcher PJ Higgins, infielder Trent Giambrone, and pitcher Adrian Sampson this morning and sent them to Iowa. As a result, all three are eligible to become minor league free agents on Monday.

These moves were not that surprising. Although, the Higgins move is a little concerning as the Cubs will be looking for a backup catcher. Higgins could be brought back on a MiLB deal but odds are that chance is low. After 7 years as a Cub prospect, he might be ready to move on and get a chance with someone else. At 28, it might be time. And the same is true of Giambrone, who is probably one of the nicest prospects you will meet. Good luck to all of them.

Monday should be a busy day in terms of player movement. I will be doing a live blog throughout the day that I can update 3-4 times. My affiliate depth charts will probably be a hot mess.
